Prep data for AI vs. Fabric Data Agent Instructions: What Goes Where? — 2 Comments

  1. Another great post, James. Thank you. One nugget to add : It’s my understanding that beyond the “prep data for AI” config, that semantic model metadata, including table, column, and measure names, descriptions, and synonyms also play a part in the NL2DAX query gen.

    • Great point, Peter. Yes, that is correct. The DAX-generation tool uses the semantic model’s underlying metadata in addition to the Prep data for AI configuration. That includes things such as table, column, and measure names and descriptions, synonyms, relationships, measure definitions, and other model metadata.

I mention the metadata + Prep for AI distinction in the post, but I think your comment highlights that the underlying semantic model deserves to be called out more explicitly. Prep for AI enhances the model’s AI context; it doesn’t replace the importance of having a well-designed and well-described semantic model. I have added another row in the table in this blog to call it out.
